BSIFF opens with Moonlight tomorrow

The second edition of the Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF) will take off tomorrow with the opening ceremony at the Silverbird Cinema, Accra Mall at 8am.

The opening film, Moonlight, follows immediately after the  ceremony at the same venue.  There will be film screenings throughout the day at the Silverbird Cinema, Accra Mall and the African Regent Hotel as well as  an open-air cinema at Achimota Mall from 7pm to 11pm.

Panel Sessions on storytelling and co-productions will be held at the African Regent Hotel.

On Saturday August 19, there will be film screenings all day at the Silverbird Cinema, Accra Mall and the African Regent Hotel. There will also be Cultural Immersion at Mantse Agbonaa, Jamestown from 12 to 5pm to be followed by film screening from 6pm to 8pm at the same venue.

A Film Party comes off at the Django Bar at Rockstone’s Office from 8pm to 2am.

There will be film screening at the Silverbird Cinema, Accra Mall and African Regent Hotel from 10am to 11pm on Sunday, August 20. Panel Sessions at the African Regent Hotel will be on the topics “The Distribution Journey” and “Broadcasters and Content Makers”.

The closing film, A United Kingdom will be screened at the Silverbird Cinema, Accra Mall from 3pm to 5pm. An invite-only closing ceremony will come off at the One Airport Square in the evening.

Activities for the festival will come to a close with a trip to the Elmina Castle on Monday, August 21.

Speaking to Showbiz last Tuesday, Ms Juliet Asante, the Founding President of the festival said the Second Lady, Mrs Samira Bawumia is expected to attend the opening ceremony as well as the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Catherine Afeku. The Minister will also attend all other events of the festival.

“The First Lady will also be at the closing film, A United Kingdom by Ama Asante, a British-born Ghanaian while the President is expected to grace the closing ceremony,” she said.

“Ghana is ready to share our culture and who we are as a people through film, we use this opportunity to welcome all our visitors. Let’s use this opportunity to support our own, learn and network to build this country because the festival brings people together,” she said.
