Blame profane songs for social ills —NCC Director
THE Director for Policy Planning, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation at the National Commission on Culture (NCC), Dr Richardson Commey Fio, has condemned profane songs as the cause of rising unethical behaviours in society.

He said the production of immoral music was unethical and undermined the proper values of the country.
Dr Commey in an interview with Graphic Showbiz said he had also observed in recent times how a number of musicians had turned to writing morally offensive tunes, which shouldn’t be tolerated.
The NCC director was of the view that society was conditioned to practise what it was mostly exposed to and the content of music had the ability to affect how people behaved, contributing significantly to falling moral standards.
“The NCC has noticed with worry the influx of songs and other musical contents that don’t promote positive human behaviour. The question that arises is ‘are we doing music for doing sake or we are using our creativity to address behavioural issues in our society?’
“We must understand that creativity is supposed to lead a society to emphasise or highlight various aspects of human activity and behaviour towards societal transformation for sustainable development.
“As consumers of music and musical contents, especially parents, we must be mindful and pay attention to the kind of music our children consume since it has the tendency to affect their behaviour, either good or bad,” he stated.
The NCC director also urged the various music associations to reach an understanding with their members to reduce unethical songs.
“I would like to make an appeal to all parties involved, including the various associations, to encourage their members to toe the right path,” he added.
Dr Commey Fio told Graphic Showbiz that the NCC had started a campaign to raise money from outside sources so that artistes all over the country could be educated about the value of their creativity to the growth of the industry.
