CELEBRATED Ghanaian music composer and founder of Winneba Youth Choir, Dr George Mensah Essilfie makes a comeback to the Ghanaian music scene with a concert dubbed, Kalabashi Concert- Songs of Akotam at the National Theatre on Sunday, June 11.

The concert which is expected to be a celebration of Ghanaian music and creativity also marks Dr Essilfie’s grand return to his home country after an extended period of international performances and collaborations.

According to Dr Essilfie, Kalabashi Concert- Songs of Akotam will be performed by the award-winning choral group, Harmonious Chorale Ghana.

“Harmonious Chorale Ghana, acclaimed for their vocal harmonies and heartfelt performances, will contribute their extraordinary talents to bring Kalabashi Concert- Songs of Akotam to life on stage.

“The concert is expected to highlight the outstanding talent and rich cultural heritage of Ghana's music with particular reference to folk music.

Kalabashi Concert- Songs of Akotam will be staged in an African traditional setting and it will transport the audience on an exciting trip by fusing beautiful melodies, potent storytelling, and dynamic choreography”, he told Graphic Showbiz.

It is anticipated that Dr Essilfie's distinctive musical style, which is firmly anchored in Ghanaian traditions and infused with modern elements, will provide a harmonious blend that will speak to audiences of all ages.

Dr Essilfie is well known for his choral arrangement of folk songs including AgorƆ YƐdƐ, Tutu Gbovi, Kpanlogo YƐdƐ, Everybody Bring Your Calash, Senyiwa(Pete Pete) among others.

He is hopeful the concert modelled after worldwide musicals such Moana, Frozen, and Sound of Music, would highlight the relevance of Ghana's traditional folk music and make it more accessible.
