However, the video of the song courted controversy as it featured some explicit scenes which were highly criticised.

As if the condemnations were not enough, the video was rejected by some media houses since it fell below their “moral standards”.

Well, it seems Jay Ampofo has moved on and she is promoting her latest song, Alewa released on Monday, April 10.

Alewa is a Ghanaian locally candy. It is very colourful and makers blend the colours and ingredients in a way that makes it attractive and sweet.

The graduate of Accra Technical University likens love to alewa this she sings about how love can be made to be attractive and sweet like alewa when parties involved make deliberate efforts to make it work.

Produced by Genius Production and kryucifix beatz, Alewa, done in the Afrobeats vein similarly encourages music lovers to appreciate the fullness of love.

In a conversation with Graphic Showbiz, Jay Ampofo mentioned that her latest piece is meant to encourage couples to always work at the love they share.

“It’s not enough to say you are in love or love someone but must also note that constant  reassurance of the love through actions is key and Alewa is a gentle reminder of that,” she said.

Talking about her works, Jay Ampofo said it was very hypocritical for people who watch explicit videos of international artistes such as Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Rihannah to condemn her for showing less flesh in her videos.

“Even though my previous song Lamborghini is doing well online, I had difficulty promoting it on local television stations because they claim it was too explicit. But these same TV stations play foreign music videos with worse scenes and yet no one talks about standards.

“ I think there should be a level playing ground for all especially for up and coming artistes like myself who face many challenges and ‘rules’ from industry players,” she added.
