Sonnie was nominated in the categories of Gospel Artiste of the Year, Best Male Vocal Performance, Album of the Year and Artiste of the Year.

He is competing against the likes of Castro, Kwabena Kwabena, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Samini and Guru for the Artiste of the Year award.

He is also in the race with OJ, Nicholas Omane Acheampong, Joyce Blessing and Patience Nyarko for the Gospel Artiste of the Year award.

According to Sonnie, although this is his first time in VGMA, he is hopeful of grabbing the Artiste of the Year award.

“I am happy to be nominated for the first time in the VGMA. I had four nominations including Artiste of the year which goes to testify that my works have been appreciated,” Sonnie said.

He said although his songs are accepted worldwide including Ghana, the category in which he finds himself is a tough one. He therefore urges his fans to vote for him.

Known popularly for his song, Baba, Sonnie has received numerous awards including Best Gospel Male at the British Gospel Music Awards; Best Gospel Artiste at the African Music Awards (AMA) in 2010, in the UK; Best Musician at the GUBA Awards, UK in 2010 and Best Gospel Artist at Black Entertainment Fashion and Film Award (BEFFTA) in 2009 among others.
