Sing gospel music to evangelise - Pastor Owusu Ansah

The Health, Youth and Chaplaincy Director of the Northern Ghana Union Mission (NGUM) of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Pastor Daniel Owusu Ansah, has advised gospel musicians in the country to use songs to evangelise rather than focusing on how to make profit out of the art.

He noted that gospel music artistes of recent times were interested in touching the hearts of their listeners with good lyrics and focusing on profit that would accrue from the business. He further noted that gospel music was gradually losing its appeal  of spreading the gospel to change lives for the better.

Pastor Owusu Ansah was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Kumasi Zone Adventist Choir Union (KIZACU A2) held at Breman in Kumasi. In his 15-minute sermon preached on "The Gospel Through Music," he said the gospel was the good news needed in every home.

With biblical references from Isaiah 52:17-22, Luke 4:16-18, Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 16:15-16, Acts 1:8 and Revelation 14:6, he said the Bible enjoined Christians to spread the gospel to all corners of the world till the end. In line with that, he said evangelism campaigns alone were not enough and that one of the best and fastest ways of evangelising to the masses was through gospel music.

For his part, the Chairman of the KIZACU A2, Mr Enock Boateng, said members of the various choir unions were required to sing through hard work and dedication to the Lord. He asked that as the choristers sang, they should let their lives reflect the gospel and live as role models in their communities so that through them others might know Christ.

The Bremanhene, Nana Kotei Kutin Sraman II, said the church must preach to minimise the social vices in the society.
