Many “adopted” genres of music are growing and one such genre which has bred important artistes for the Ghanaian market is R&B. Already, there’s a new genre called Afro R&B being championed by new artiste, BiQo.

To prove his readiness for the game, he has released a new song called Pardon Me. The banking and finance student  of the University of Ghana, BiQo, born Stephen Okletey, has been singing since childhood but  made a professional move in 2011.

The song which was released in April of this year on Starr Drive is a fast-paced song which preaches the need for people to cultivate the habit of tolerance.

The song which was produced by Liquidbeatz also advises people to shun the habit of criticising others and  look at the positive attitude of people.

‘‘I see you watching my moves, you dey study my mistakes …With a handful of colours, all you do is to paint me….I bleed just like you so what’s the point if you hate me? Pardon me, pardon me, if I ever wronged you, pardon me, ‘cos I’m just a man,’’ the chorus sings.

BiQo, says he admires Ghanaian legendary singer, Kojo Antwi because ‘‘he is iconic and a great musician’’.

This was the reason he gave for people to appreciate his style and music when he spoke with Showbiz on Monday.

‘‘My everyday experiences and the fact that singing brings me joy is what inspires me to sing. People should listen to me because I tell their story and mine with sincerity,’’ he said.

“I know this is a new genre that is yet to win the hearts of many but with artistes such as Knaan, Asa and Nico and Vinz of Am I Wrong fame championing it through their works, it will get the attention in Ghana soon,” he stated.

BiQo has other songs including Fantasy, Ave Maria, Stay and Odo under his belt. He hopes to get some attention with Pardon me.
