Lousika: new mom, new style

Critics of Boss Chic Lousika, who have lampooned her in the past  for exposing too much flesh during stage performances, may now save their bullets because the Hands Up hitmaker says she will be returning to the stage soon as a new chic.

Lousika, real name, Christelle Akua Sika Amankona, says that when she mounts the stage early next year, she will do so dressesd as decently as a wife and fresh mother is expected to.

“I would sometimes miss my days on stage but through the  journey in my music career, I have come to realise that, one aspect of my personal style that became a source of worry to my fans was the costumes I wore to perform.

“I expose too much flesh, they say, but things will be different this time around. I want them to know that when I return, it will be a different me.

“I have been married for 15  months and now a mother to a seven- week- old baby girl so I see things differently now. I have gotten to the point where I think of my daughter and husband anytime I want to do anything. Marriage has changed me,” she told Showbiz over the phone last Monday from her base in France.

“I took this decision when I got married. I found out that, life was no more about me so I quickly had to adapt to my new status and change quickly to meet the status quo society has set for married women.

“Anytime I want to make a decision, I think of the respect I have for my husband and how the negative comments I used to receive when I was single would affect him and my child. I do not want to hurt them so I have to change and this change includes my costumes for performances. I am no more a rebel ,” she said.

When asked if she intended to do music fully she said, “of course not, it will be something I would be doing on part time. Now, I am a family woman so I would not have the time to do just music. My husband and baby girl comes first.”

Getting married at age 20 may not be new to many artistes  but for an artiste who was at the peak of her career, it has to  be a difficult decision and in a response to that, Lousika said; “it was not an easy decision for me to get married so soon  but after many considerations, I realised this was what I wanted and the man involved was just perfect for me. Besides things change and as humans, we also change.”

In response to how her family reacted to the news of her marriage, she happily said, “They were actually happy. You know, they were not really in support of my music career and the lifestyle. So yes, they were excited because that was what they had always wanted me to do, to grow and mature.”

To her fans she said; “I miss them very much and can’t wait to start rolling. They should not give up on me because I still think about them.”

“I will also use this opportunity to thank my husband’s family for accepting me for who I am. Judging from the pressure my female colleagues go through from the man’s side when it comes to settling down, I count myself lucky,” she said.

Lousika entered the Ghanaian music industry about three years ago with her Boss Chick track and since then, she has won a lot of admiration for her rap style of music.

Currently, the 21 year old has songs like Need Your Love which featured Sarkodie, Hands Up and Take Over, In Love, Get Money, Hands Up featuring Cabum, Down Low featuring Joey B and Accra Connections featuring Bisa kdei to her credit.

Heavily influenced by artistes like Missy Elliot, Beyonce, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, she does a blend of Hip-hop and Afro-Pop music. Lousika also raps and sings in four languages; French, Twi, English and Spanish.
