He calls it simply the Happy Birthday Celebration but the affair on Sunday, September 21, for keyboardist, guitarist and recording engineer, King Benjah, goes beyond just a birthday bash.
It is actually a three-pronged activity of birthday, album launch and marking of 40 active years in the music business. The event is scheduled for the MUSIGA Head Office from 2.00pm.
King Benjah is leader of the Boomers Band. His track record in the music business, however, goes back to 1974 when he became a member of the Boom Talents, then led by his saxophonist father, J K Boom.
When that band folded up, he played with the Tema-based Super Hippies before joining CK Mann and eventually moving on to start the Boomers.
The album King Benjah will launch on Sunday is a 10-track gospel collection titled Jesus Is Able.
Some of the people who have known him over the years may be surprised to hear King Benjah preach the gospel of Jesus Christ through music but the musician says times change.
He has been a member of the Christ Embassy congregation at Osu in Accra over the last three years and the teachings there have influenced his take on life and eternity.
King Benjah has been a strong reggae exponent for a long time and he sticks to that genre on all the songs on the Jesus Is Able album.
Songs in the collection include Thanks and Glory, Thank You Lord, Abide In Him, King of Kings, Give Your Life and Lord Saves.
Artistes scheduled to support King Benjah and his Boomers Band at the Happy Birthday Celebration on Sunday are Mary Ghansah, Henry Abossey, KK Kabobo and Frank Kissi.
“We are all looking forward to a good time,” King Benjah says.
