Designed to place electro music at the forefront of the festival, Republic Bar & Grill at Osu in Accra, will on the same day host an opening party with performances by DJs BBrave, Steloo Jason Kleatsh, Pam and Keyzzz.

Electro (short for either electro-funk or electro-boogie) is a style of electronic dance music directly influenced by the use of drum machines and samplings from funk music.

Songs in the electro mode are usually without vocals, though if vocals are present, they are delivered often through electronic distortion such as vocoding.

The ECG festival returns to the Alliance Française  on Friday, October 24, with the launch of  Akwaaba Sound System’s Roots of Azonto  project which makes traditional rhythms collected from around the country available on the Internet for free downloading and sampling into electro music productions.

There will be an after-party at Smollensky’s Rooftop in Accra on the same night.

Saturday, October 25, will feature the Just a Band group from Kenya with a warm-up by DJs Steloo and Jason Kleatsh. An after-party featuring a performance by DJs Eyal Rob Sabo – both from Tel Aviv, Israel will take place at Rockstone’s Office in Accra.

Also on the bill is the United States-based Ghanaian singer, Azizaa, who draws heavily on her strong Ewe roots to enhance the American influences which include artistes such as Tina Turner, Nina Simone, Big Momma Thornton, Ray Charles,  Muddy Waters and Howling Wolf as well as some sway towards  Angelic Kidjo.

The festival is being supported by the state of Israel, Kenya Airways, Institut Français (Ghana) and Alliance Francaise (Accra).
