After a successful maiden post-COVID edition of classical music recital on May 21, 2023, lovers of this unique music await another exciting time, comes Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the British Council Hall.

Organised by the Ghana Classical Music Association, the recitals, to featuring budding Ghanaian performers, will thrill patrons with another exciting programme in its second edition.

Covering all modes of performances, the recital is going to feature evergreen tunes of the masters-Mozart, Bach, Handel, Haydn, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Amu, Nketiah, etc to provide an evening of exhilarating entertainment to attendees.

Speaking on the next performance, the National Chairman of the association Alexander Osei-Owusu was upbeat of the success of classical music in Ghana, judging from what happened at the maiden pre-COVID edition.

“As patronage of classical music gathers momentum, we hope to capitalize on same to set the platform for Ghanaian classical music artistes to perform during our bi-monthly recitals and for subsequent partnership with foreign artiste to gain international exposure.

“All these are with the view of making Ghana the centre of classical music in the West African sub-region,” Mr Osei-Owusu told journalists, when he officially announced the date for the next performance.

He said the association was eager to avail all the benefits of classical music, “being the quality entertainment, positive psychological and therapeutic effect to the general public, through the provision of quality alternative music for adults.”

He said Nilex Properties single-handedly sponsored the first edition and was looking forward to many other corporate bodies “to join in the search for an alternative music for adult and to inculcate it in our children.

Mr Osei-Owusu hinted that the association was working to introduce classical music to children and was therefore, inviting schoolchildren from selected schools in Accra, saying that during the maiden edition, schoolchildren from the Alcyd Academy, the International Community School, Christ The King and Ghana International School attended.

As the upcoming recital remains free to the public, he said notable guests expected to attend include members of the diplomatic corps, management of multinational and national companies, banks, financial institutions, insurance companies, telecommunication companies.

Touching on health benefits, Mr Osei-Owusu hinted in the coming months, the association would outline and carry out sensitisation programmes on the health benefits of classical music especially for sedentary workers, pregnant women, developing children and individual master composers and the analysis of the “Mozart Effect”.
