There is no doubt that hip hop music amasses strong following among the younger generation and as such music lovers who want to experience the refreshing blend of hip hop and Afro-beat can make a date with United States-based Ghanaian rapper, Blitz the Ambassador, on Saturday, January 25 at the Alliance Francaise in Accra.

Dubbed Afropolitan Dreams, this Saturday’s show will open his World 2014 tour which is expected to take Blitz and his eight-piece band to various parts of the world.

The artiste is already a well-travelled performer who has endeared himself to audiences through a cool blend of hiphop and Afro-beat.

After moving to the U.S. to attend college, Blitz continued to sharpen his musical skills, releasing several mixed tapes as an undergraduate at Kent State University. He later moved to New York City to pursue his dream.

Over there, Blitz recorded Stereotype, a hiphop-oriented musical that drew on his diverse musical background.

He grew up during the period when intellectually discerning rap was at its peak. Blitz crafts his songs from scratch, singing reference songs for every trombone and background vocal and often laying down thirty or more lines for each song.

“It’s easy to throw a bunch of elements together, but you have to find points where they intersect,” he explains.

“You have to create something so you can tell where hiphop begins and whereAfro-beat ends - and where highlife stops and future beats start. You have to create a world of equal parts,” he says.

Institut Français, (Ghana), Alliance Francaise (Accra), BIC, Novotel, Canal+, CanalSat, accraexpat.com, accradotalt and other outfits  are supporting the concert, which will also feature Ghanaian rap star Yaa Pono.
