A Qube talks about life

Different issues about society appeal to artistes in the composition of their songs and it is not surprising that hiplife artistes, A Qube, have taken on the task of preaching the meaning of life to people.

In their latest song, Tokuro which was released some few months ago and featured Choirmaster, the duo talks about how life brings its own challenges and appeal to individuals.

On the hiplife song, which was rendered in a fast tempo vein, A Qube relates life to different variety of holes. They rap about how some holes are small and others are large. For them, just as the particular size of a hole may pose a favourable condition for some people, it might not be the same for others.

They therefore entreated people to appreciate what life presents to them at a particular time and work hard to improve their conditions.

With a title like “Tokuro”, the song which is fused with some strong African rhythms raises eyebrows and connotes the sex part of females but A Qube defended it when they were asked.

“There is nothing sexual about this. It is just part of our creativity as artistes. If you listen to the song, you will notice that it has no risqué lyrics. We just wanted something catchy to get the attention of people to appreciate the content and message of the song.

“Musicians are like poets. We use figures of speech and literary devices to show the beauty of the arts of our compositions. However, since music is a work of art, it is subjective and everyone has the right to interpret the lyrics to suit their own interests,” A Qube said.

The Koforidua based music duo comprises Kugbonu Ofosu Maxwell (Alaska) and Ackom Dickosn (Ziggy). They came to the limelight in 2004 when they released their first single, Oga Police.

They later released I dey Kolo and Kye No By Force which featured Guru. Currently, they are promoting their new songs, Tena Faako, Diana and Martha.
