3 For Channel O Music Video Awards

Sarkodie, Shatta Wale and R2Bees have been nominated for awards in four categories of the 2014 Channel O Africa Music Video Awards.

Spread across 14 categories, this year’s Channel O Africa Music Video Awards nominees are a showcase of original African music from the continent. It is befitting to the dashing 17-year-old music channel that has and continues to consistently be a pioneer for Africa’s musicians and music. 

“The quality of music videos we have seen over the past few years is a testament to the way music videos are playing an increasingly important role in the promotion of African music. It is refreshing to see newcomers nominated with industry veterans in this year’s nominees list and it proves that there is no barrier to making an impact on the music scene,” says Channel O Africa Manager, Leslie Kasumba.

The Channel O Africa Music Video Awards are the only public voted annual music video awards show broadcast around the continent that exclusively feature African artists and now in its eleventh year, 2014 will see the awards taking place on Saturday,  November 29, at Nasrec Expo Centre in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa.

R2Bees’ Slow Down featuring Wizkid, has been nominated in two categories; Most Gifted Group and Most Gifted West Africa Group. Sarkodie has been nominated in the Most Gifted Male category with Illuminati while Shatta Wale’s  Everybody Likes My Ting has been nominated in the Most Gifted Dancehall category. 

Leading with the most nominees this year is South African and new kid on the Hip Hop streets, Cassper Nyovest; K.O and Nigeria’s Davido with five nominations each.  Nyovest flexes his musical prowess with his nominations for Most Gifted Male Video, Most Gifted Newcomer Video, the ever controversial Most Gifted Hip Hop Video, Most Gifted Southern Video as well as the prestigious Most Gifted Video of the Year categories for Doc Shebeleza.

Davido represents West Africa with his impressive nominations for the track Aye which dominated in four categories; Most Gifted Male Video, Most Gifted Afro Pop Video, Most Gifted West Video and Most Gifted Video of the Year. Skelewu also earned him a comfortable spot in the Most Gifted Dance Video category.

Voting takes place across a wide range of digital platforms: via the website and mobile site. Voting on the website and on the mobile site [www.channelo.tv] is free and you are allowed to vote up to 100 times on both platforms respectively; via WeChat - voting on WeChat is free.
