Daniel told MailOnline that he hated watching himself in the Harry Potter films and became his own worst critic of his skills as an actor.

The 25-year-old actor, who left the Harry Potter film franchise four years ago, says he regrets being forced to watch his own films at premieres, claiming that by the sixth movie, he'd become complacent as an actor.

Daniel said: 'It's hard to watch a film like Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince, because I'm just not very good in it. I hate it.

'My acting is very one note and I can see I got complacent and what I was trying to do just didn't come across.'

The actor was forced to learn his craft on set, having been handpicked for the role at the tender age of 11.

Playing the eponymous character in the seven-film set could have meant that Daniel was under more scrutiny than his co-stars Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and Rupert Grint (Ronald Weasley).

But no-one offered more judgment than himself.

'It's more important for me to be self-critical,' he continued to MailOnline. 'Because I've grown up in an atmosphere where everyone is always wanting to be nice to me.'

The actor takes on his first romantic comedy role this summer, having tried his hand at stage roles, horror and a biographical dramas since Harry Potter.

Daniel will play Wallace alongside Zoe Kazan, a medical student who must get his head around being in the 'friend zone' with a girl he’s fallen head over heels for.
