Ghanaian Video directors can do better

It is disheartening to hear the poor assessment of Ghanaian video directors from some artistes. Highlife duo Gallaxy in a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz, described some Ghanaian video directors as lazy, unprofessional and being out of touch with modern trends.

Unfortunately, this sentiment is shared by a number of artistes Showbiz has spoken to in the past.

One would have expected that with the strides made in the entertainment industry, video directors would have upped their game accordingly.  Music videos have evolved from simply being clips of artistes ‘miming’ their songs into works of art.

You only have to look at the videos of artistes like Michael Jackson, Beyonce among others to know how important music videos are to the modern artiste.

With the Internet and other digital mediums, even a single well-shot and choreographed music video is enough to increase the recognition of relatively unknown artistes.

There have been numerous instances where a strategically released music video has been able to revive the appeal of an otherwise ‘dead’ song.

Both artistes and video directors need to appreciate the significance of music videos and place a premium on them.

In order for the Ghanaian industry to reach the level of competitiveness of the international entertainment industry, both our artistes and video directors have to aspire for more.

At Showbiz we believe that far too often, artistes are content with wha mediocre products and the Ghanaian market appears to be content with whatever video is produced and this has resulted in directors settling for low quality work and also unwilling to upgrade their skills.
