Cheers to the men

For a long time, the attention has been on mothers and their unrivalled contribution in the family and extended roles in the development of the society.

The praises of women have been sung in various corners but last Saturday, the men were celebrated too.

It was at the first edition of the Exclusive Men of The Year Awards held at the Banquet Hall, State House aimed at honouring deserving men.

The occasion dubbed the “Father’s Day” special highlighted the significance and honour of fatherhood as well.

According to the organisers, the awards sought out men of integrity, and dedication, acknowledged by family, community, and country from diverse fields.

Their celebration is to acknowledge their sterling qualities and accomplishment in Africa and beyond.

Showbiz believes this is a step in the right direction and the organisers must be given a pat on the shoulders for such an initiative.

As on Sunday's marked Father’s Day, it is imperative that not only men who have distinguished their roles in society but also those who have executed their duties as fathers are also appreciated.

It is based on this background that Showbiz believes that more of such award schemes should be instituted to bring to fore the relevance of fatherhood when outstanding ones are honoured.

However, it is quite unfortunate that while celebrating fathers and recognising men whose passion and commitment had rolled out major landmarks in the progress and development of the country, most award winners were rather absent.

Their absence definitely took some shine off the event but that is not to say, its significance was ignored.

While praising the organisers for rolling out the event, we also congratulate the winners for the feat chalked.

It is hoped that more of such award schemes are instituted to celebrate men and highlight their contribution in both family and society.
