Performance
The organisation explained that “in 2019, we monitored these PR women who led campaigns for their organisations, clients and at the same time advanced the image of our profession.
They used various mediums: social media and traditional, to share, impact and inspire many others.
“They won awards for their organisations, engaged in speaking opportunities, used their platforms to inform people about their role as PR and Communicators, mentored and supported young PR professionals and also championed campaigns that put more spotlight on Public Relations in Ghana, among other things,” it explained.
It explained that as an industry which had been globally recognised as predominantly female, with women still occupying less top position and boardroom roles, “these women are in diverse ways contributing to the growth of female roles in senior positions.”
According to the 2019 Global Women in PR Annual Index, 81 per cent believed more should be done to help women to get into the boardroom.
“As we look forward to another year ahead in 2020, we believe collectively we will work to increase gender diversity in our boardrooms, create more female role models, practise flexible working conditions and mentorship,” it added.
It acknowledged the 10 female PR professionals for their hard work and communication skills, which put their respective organisations in the limelight.
Challenging year
For instance, it said Ms Twum Ampofo had “one difficult and challenging year but was able to stay on top of her game and actively perform her role as the head of PR.
“Her organisation, the GES, was in the news more frequently in 2019 from the rolling out of the Free SHS and matters arising due to the Double-Track System and the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), teachers strikes, new school uniforms and syllabus and a host of other issues.
“She has been at the forefront of many of these issues, including issuing media statements, granting interviews, holding press conferences, organising sensitisation workshops and many more,” the organisation said.
