The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) has supported the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) with communication gadgets valued at GH¢212,708.
They included 100 desktop computers and uninterrupted power supply systems, 600 dual Sim mobile phones, a projector, a scanner and a server for Internet connection.
The computers and mobile phones are to be distributed to all the regional offices of the GNFS, to enable them to communicate and respond to fire outbreaks and other emergencies promptly.
The Administrator of GIFEC, Mr Kofi Attor, said the donation formed part of his outfit’s support to the service.
He said for the GNFS to function effectively, there was the need for effective communication by the service, therefore making the use of a mobile phone, a necessity.
Brigadier General J.B.E. Guyiri, the acting Chief Fire Officer, said the GNFS had communication problems and, therefore, the mobile phones had come in handy.
He said considering the current service strength and the daily occurrences of fires and road accidents, the GNFS would require more of such gadgets to facilitate rapid communication and information gathering for immediate responses.
