Young entrepreneurs urged to be innovative

The Executive Chairman of JL Holdings, Dr James Orleans Lindsay has urged the youth to be innovative in exploring new ideas that would solve the problems in the country.

He said if the youth want to be successful entrepreneurs and create wealth, then they have to act differently by coming up with innovative products and services that would solve some of the problems in the country.

Speaking at the launch of the 'My Story' magazine, which is aimed at telling the stories of successful entrepreneurs in Africa, Dr Orleans said "we need to create our own wealth. You cannot go after money, you first have to create solution to a problem and the money will come."

"Some of Ghana's biggest problems at the moment are sanitation and food, if you can find solutions to these then you will become rich," he noted.

My story magazine

The new magazine which is published by MSM Publishers is to highlight the achievements of African entrepreneurs and support the vision of telling the African story.

The quarterly publication would also provide credible and current information about investment trends and opportunities on the continent.

Chief Executive Officer and publisher of the newly launched magazine, Mr Akwasi Bonsu, said an online and social media platform will complement the print version of the publication.

“To meet a large audience, we need social media and online, that’s the future of the world and Africa so all the stories in our magazine can be found online. You don’t have to pay to have your story told, it’s your experience and once you share it with us, we will put it out there,” he told the press at a launch event on Saturday.

He said the magazine will be a companion to young entrepreneurs looking for ideas on a wide range of subjects -- including branding and marketing.

Starting with a seed

The Managing Director of Radiance Petroleum, Mr Emmanuel Pobee, who was also a guest at the launch, also urged the youth to develop their ideas into a reality.

"Every idea starts with a seed and as an entrepreneur, I believe in starting small," he stated.

"All the major achievers have one thing in common, which is they all started with a seed," he added.

Seeing beyond efforts

Mr Pobee also urged young entrepreneurs to see beyond the efforts and defy all odds to be able to succeed in Africa and the World at large.

“Africa is of age and we are no longer the Dark Continent. We are now competing in the global world but our stories are not being told. This is the time to tell our stories,” he stated.
