Work to begin on US$60m international logistics park
The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, has performed the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of an international standard logistics park at the Tema free zones enclave.

The US$ 60 million project, which is being spearheaded by the Agility Group, a leading global logistics and logistical infrastructure provider, would improve logistics efficiency, reduce cost, facilitate raw material procurement and improve on business services processing.
It would also provide a comprehensive approach to inventory management, handling, packaging, storage, distribution and other practices in the supply chain enterprise.
The Agility Distribution Park, one of a series of logistics hubs that Agility is building across the African continent, will provide international standard logistics infrastructure to local, regional and global companies operating in Ghana.
Mr Ricketts-Hagan said the investment would strategically position and link Ghanaian businesses to the global market in the wake of increasing customer dynamics and supply chain complexities.
He also pointed out that as the enterprise of logistics parks evolved and expanded, development through collaboration and networking would become increasingly important to ensure creativity and sustain long-term attractiveness and competitiveness.
The deputy minister said an International Logistics Park provided direct access to global transport networks and enabled direct transshipment of large volumes of goods without the need for long winding intermediary operations.

The Chief Executive Officer for Agility Africa, Mr Geoffrey White, added that Agility was a world leader in developing logistics parks around the globe and was committed to developing a network of quality distribution parks in Africa.
“By providing much needed import and export routes in and out of Africa, Agility Distribution Parks will help companies operate in Africa with the reliable, modern and secure infrastructure they need to grow their businesses,” he said.
He said Agility Distribution Parks would focus on providing undisturbed power, IT connectivity and security for tenants and creating an international platform from which companies could efficiently operate their businesses.
“Offering 2PL, 3PL and 4PL solutions, Agility operates its own warehousing and also designs and builds warehouses on its Distribution Parks for third parties to specific individual customer specifications,” he added.
The first phase of the park will be completed and be operational in the last quarter of 2015, and when fully occupied will include 100,000 sqm of bonded and non-bonded warehouses with ancillary services.
