Wilmar assists physically challenged with marketing skills

Wilmar Africa has introduced a new marketing strategy to help persons with disabilities to engage in some form of trading activities.

Dubbed “Midwadi sronko”, it is a part of the company’s corporate social responsibility which would help physically challenged persons to earn a living and take care of themselves and their families.

According to the General Manager (GM) of Wilmar Africa, Ms Fatima Alimohammed, the concept was to take many of the physically challenged from the streets and also give them a decent way of earning an income.

“We want to give them the opportunity to engage in business transactions so that they can earn some income to cater for themselves and their families,” she said.

She said the initiative would erase the perception that the physically challenged were burdens to society.

Credit supply

Ms Alimohammed explained further, that, “the people will be supplied with products on credit on a daily basis and they will determine the price. The disabled would only render account on sales of the products to the company and keep the profit.”

She added that since the persons with disability were in different categories, those who were physically fit would be provided with selling points for them to trade.

The project coordinator of the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled, Mr Anthony Adarkwah, told the Daily Graphic that the initiative would be useful to him and the entire association.

He explained that most of them were jobless and so they would take advantage of the initiative and make the most out of it.
