When completed, the eight-storey edifice with two underground parking lots is expected to be the nerve centre of the bank which set up base in Ghana almost 20 years ago and was the first Nigerian bank to expand its operations to the country.

The ceremony attracted many dignitaries including the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ibok-Ete Ibas, the CEO of UBA Africa, Abiola Bawuah, the Board Chairman of UBA Ghana, Kweku A. Awotwi, the CEO of UBA Ghana, Chris Ofikulu, the Member of Parliament for La Dade Kotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah and many top officials from the banking industry.

Milestone

Mr Ofikulu said the edifice, when completed, will mark a significant milestone in the life of the UBA and will further cement its legacy as a bank that would continue to help the economic development of the country.

He said the journey for the bank to build an edifice befitting its status as one of the biggest contributors to the economy started five years ago with support from all stakeholders.

“We have all gathered to witness this epic milestone. This is the beginning of a new chapter for the UBA Ghana,” he said.

He said the building, when completed, would not only change the skyline of the area but would add credence to the fact that the UBA was the bank willing to go the extra mile to improve its operations for better service delivery to customers.

“This building will give us enough space and credulity to better support the businesses of our customers,” he said.

Iconic building

The CEO of UBA Africa, Abiola Bawuah urged the architects and developers to ensure the building would not only be iconic in terms of aesthetics but one that would have a lasting and good impression on all who utilise it.

Giving a history of UBA in Ghana, she said it was the first Nigerian indigenous bank to venture into the Ghanaian market and with hard work, dedication and excellent customer service, it now boasts a massive presence in over 20 African countries.

“This building will emphasise providing strong financial services to Ghanaians. We are committed to serving the people of Ghana well,” she added.

Core values

Mr Awortwi said the construction of the building was part of the bank’s commitment to excellence, enterprise and execution, which were its core values.

“I extend my sincere gratitude to all our customers for their unwavering support. Together, we are crafting a narrative of progress and success, and I have every confidence that the UBA Ghana head office will stand as a beacon of excellence,” he added.
