Two business and financial reporters with the Graphic Business, the financial newspaper in the Graphic Communications Group Limited newspaper stable, have been nominated to receive three awards in the second edition of the Gold Awards for Business Journalism, 2013.
They are Mr Charles Benoni Okine, acting Editor of the Graphic Business, who was nominated for the ICT Reporter of the Year and Reporter of the Year (Print), and Mr Suleiman Mustapha, a Staff Writer, who was also nominated in the Investigative Journalist of the Year category and that of the Reporter of the Year category (Print).
Graphic Business, which is five years this year, was also nominated for an award in the Print Media of The Year category.
The award would be held in Accra on Saturday, December 14, 2013.
The Gold Award is the brainchild of the Masoe Productions West Africa (MPWA) and the Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ).
It was instituted to exclusively recognise the works of business, financial and economic journalists in the country.
It is also meant to enhance professionalism in the reporting of business, financial and economic news to meet internal standards.
The first edition of the awards, which was organised in 2012 and partnered by the World Bank Ghana office, gave the opportunity to the best Financial Journalist 2012, Samuel Doe Ablordeppey, a Staff Writer with the Graphic Business, to attend the World Economic Forum in Washington, early this year.
According to a release from the organisers, “This year’s entries were an expected improvement over previous edition in quality and diversity of entries and variation of media organisations”.
It added that “we appreciate that the award has been accepted by business journalists as we collectively work together to raise the standards of business reportage in Ghana and the rest of Africa”.
