Tullow supports prostate cancer research

Tullow Ghana Limited has presented a cheque for GH¢10,000.00 to the Urology Department of the  Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) to empower the Unit to conduct extensive research on prostate cancer.

The presentation, which forms part of Tullow’s Corporate Social Responsibility, is aimed at supporting the research unit of the Urology Department.

The Communications Manager of Tullow Ghana Limited, Ms Bernice Natue, said the gesture formed part of the company’s commitment to give back to society and also affirm its resolve to help improve the health sector.

The money was raised by the staff of the company through an internal campaign dubbed “Movember” week, an Australian tradition where male staff of the company shave their beards to mobilise funds in support of a social cause.

Ms Natue said the “Movember” initiative will be institutionalised to ensure that more people benefit from it.

The Head of the Urology Department at the Hospital, Dr James Edward Mensah,  who received the cheque, thanked Tullow Ghana for the donation as it would help build capacity to treat the disease through extensive research.

“Men with this disease have a miserable life, and there are more numbers thronging the hospital daily. There is, therefore, the need for research and extensive education, and that is why Tullow’s support comes in handy,” he noted.

Dr Mensah advised the public to desist from over reliance on herbal concoctions which tend to cause damage to them and urged Ghanaians to stick to their medication.
