The 2015 College of Engineering Industrial Partners Award, Corporate Division, is in recognition of the immense support the company was giving the college, pursuant to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in August this year.

The MoU between TCCL and the college is generally aimed at working together to improve the technical expertise of graduates of KNUST for the benefit of industry.

The TCCL will also have the opportunity to benefit from extension services from the College of Engineering of KNUST to improve the operations of the company.

“Today, your special recognition is more in your commitment to support the College of Engineering of KNUST to produce the next generation of top quality engineers,” a citation accompanying the award said.

It also cited TCCL’s sponsorship of the International Conference on Engineering, Science, Technology and Entrepreneurship organised by the college, which the company also participated in.

“The company has also put its ISO 9001 certified laboratory at the disposal of the college for research to augment the facilities of KNUST. You provided internship places for our students to conduct their vacation training and have your engineers to supervise their work during their training,” the citation added.

The Marketing and Business Development Manager, TCCL, Nana Kwame Oteng-Gyasi, expressed delight at the honour conferred on the company, stressing that it would encourage the company to remain committed to supporting the college to raise world-class engineers for industry and national development.

The MoU includes student internship programmes where TCCL offers third-year students a minimum of eight weeks supervised training during the long vacation.

There will also be career fairs in which TCCL shall participate through company presentation on the scope of activities to students, and conduct interviews and aptitude tests for graduating students as part of recruitment processes.

To encourage excellence among students, TCCL also undertook to establish an award for the best students in Metallurgical Engineering.
