Shareholders raise issues with Starwin AGM today

Some shareholders of Starwin Products Limited (SPL) have raised issues with the annual general meeting (AGM) of the company scheduled for today, Wednesday, June 19, 2013.

They said while some of them had been notified about 11, 13, 14 and 16 days ahead of the event, one other shareholder, Benedicta Acheampong, had not been given any notice to that effect.

This was contained in a letter signed by shareholders Joseph Adjetey, Adobea Quayson, Benedicta Acheampong and Diana Lartey and addressed to the Chairman and the Board of Directors of Starwin Products Limited.

“We write to you as members of Starwin Products Limited and hereby caution you against holding the aforesaid AGM. This is because once again SPL has convened a general meeting in violation of members’ basic rights,” it said, adding that “the effect of holding the said AGM would be to render the AGM and its contents nullity”.

But responding to the concerns raised, the Managing Director of SPL, Mr Kwasi Yirenkyi, said notices were issued at the Registry at the Merchant Bank and did not know why the shareholder did not get her notice.

He noted that for anyone who was not notified ahead of the meeting today, June 19, 2013, to attend the AGM, an apology would be rendered to the person.

“We do not have any malicious intention against anyone,” he said, adding that anyone who had problems or did not receive notice before the event should go to the company or the registry to enquire as to why he/she was not notified.

In the case of Madam Acheampong, Mr Yirenkyi said he did not understand why she did not get her notice, explaining that she probably might not have updated her information or address.

“We are sorry if anyone did not get their notice for the meeting,” he said, and indicated that the AGM would, however, go ahead as advertised.
