The Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission has been awarded a Doctor of Business Administration degree by the PSB-Paris School of Business, Paris, France.
Dr Adu A. Antwi received the degree at a graduation ceremony of the School in Paris, France recently.
His graduation followed his successful defence of his dissertation titled: “Corporate Governance Disclosure Practices of Listed Companies in Ghana: An Evaluation,” on December 2, 2014 in Paris, France.
Dr Antwi holds a BSc. Administration degree and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Ghana Business School.
He is a chartered accountant and a lawyer by profession.
Dr Antwi is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), the Ghana Bar Association, the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, and the International Bar Association.
In August 2014, Dr Antwi was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Finance & Accounting degree by the Commonwealth University, Belize, for his inspirational story of academic and professional achievements, contribution towards the promotion of good corporate governance and efforts towards capital market development in Ghana.
Dr Antwi completed his elementary education at the Anyinam-Kotoku Local Authority Middle School in 1972.
While in the middle school, he passed the Common Entrance Examination but could not get financial support to attend secondary school to study to realise his ambition of becoming a medical officer.
He undertook menial jobs at his hometown Anyinam-Kotoku after his elementary education and relocated to Accra to start his formal working life in 1975 as a factory floor worker.
In 1978, he started studying business subjects in the evenings while working in the factory.
He passed various papers in the RSA Stage II, LCCI Intermediate, GCE Ordinary Level, RSA Stage III, LCCI Advanced, GCE Advanced Level, ICMA and ACA (ACCA) examinations and gained admission to study for his bachelor’s degree on part-time basis through the Degree Division of the Institute of Adult Education, University of Ghana in 1985.
After his bachelor’s degree, he studied for and earned his master’s degree in 1992, and thereafter studied for the professional examinations of the ICAG to qualify as a chartered accountant in 1996.
He subsequently studied law at the Ghana School of Law to qualify as a lawyer in 2007.
In October 2014, Dr Antwi, who has held top positions in the public service, was presented with the Nobles International Award by the West Africa Nobles Forum for being an eminent West African who upholds the virtues of honesty, integrity and accountability.
