Golden Star Resources Limited has promoted Mr Daniel Owiredu to the position of Executive Vice President (EVP) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the company.
The promotion of Mr Owiredu, who was the company’s Executive Vice President in-charge of Operations, took effect from Monday, January 6, 2014.
In a brief remark, the President and Chief Executive officer (CEO) of Golden Star, Mr Sam Coetzer, remarked: “I am very pleased to make this announcement as Daniel’s leadership, contribution and commitment to Golden Star have been instrumental to the company’s transformation to a lower cost gold producer.”
He placed on record the fact that Mr Owiredu’s extensive experience in the mining industry had significantly contributed to mining in Ghana in the discharge of his duties as the current president of the Ghana Chamber of Mines.
In his new role as EVP and COO of Golden Star Resources, Mr Owiredu will become a strategic advisor to the president and CEO of Golden Star and the board.
The new role is expected to help provide more timely decisions in the company’s operations in Ghana.
“The company will continue in 2014 with the critical job of focusing on optimising our assets, reducing our cost structure and focusing on near term cash flow.”
