The Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE) will hold its maiden Excellence Awards ceremony on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the State Banquet Hall in Accra.
The event, which will be on the theme: “Design, Build And Construct; Let Us Think Forever”, is expected to reward seasoned engineers and other affiliate professional bodies for their works.
Speaking to the media about the awards, the President of GhIE, Mr Magnus Lincoln Quarshie, said: “Many engineers and non-engineer professionals working in both the public and private sectors in Ghana continue to play an important role in shaping our environment and promoting sustainable development.”
He said those professionals needed to be appreciated for their efforts and contributions to the maintenance of the integrity of good engineering practice amidst competing development interests and challenging situations.
“It’s against this backdrop that the Ghana Institution of Engineers has instituted this award ceremony to reward deserving engineers.”
The categories include Academic Research Awards; Young Engineers Award; Public Sector Awards; Private Sector Awards; External/Associate Awards; Media Awards and ICT Infrastructure Awards.
The event is under the sponsorship of Bui Power Authority, Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Graphic Communications Group Limited, among others.
