Kantanka issues disclaimer over account that promised vehicle

Kantanka Automobile has denied knowledge and responsibility for a social media post that offered to gift a vehicle to a Twitter user if he garnered 30,000 retweets on a post about the brand.

According to vehicle manufacturers Kantanka, the post which has been widely circulated on social media for over eight months and garnered over 30,000 retweets within that period is a hoax.

Background

A Twitter user (@godfather_gh) real name: Jude Osei, in May last year sent out a tweet to an account with the handle @Kantanka_daily asking the number of retweets which could win him a vehicle.

After some deliberations, the said account agreed that 30,000 retweets could land him a car.

After achieving his goal today, Osei has reached out to the @Kantanka-daily account but they are still yet to respond.

After sharing screenshots of the conversation on Twitter, netizens got wind of the matter and Kantanka is currently the top trend on Ghana Twitter.

Osei, a construction worker based in the Ashanti region told the Graphic Online in a telephone interview that he was still considering his options but irrespective of the outcome, he is grateful that he helped promote a Ghanaian brand to the world.

Narrating what motivated him to reach out to the company on Twitter last year, he said it was in the aftermath of the company launching it's Mensah brand.

Osei, 28, said at the time, the brand was being trolled for being too similar to the Toyota Sonata but he liked the look of it.

He said he believed the account was genuine because, after a cursory search on Twitter, he found that it had the most followers among all the Kantanka accounts.

"Initially, they asked for 50,000 retweets but we agreed on 30,000," Osei narrated to the Graphic Online.
