Ghana, Turkey firm bilateral trade

Bilateral Trade Volumes between Ghana and Turkey is expected to hit US$1 billion by 2015, on the back of increasing appetite of Turkish investors to explore business opportunities in the Ghana.
Currently, trade between the two countries is estimated at US$500 million, up from the US$290 million in 2010, the President of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Dr Seth AdjeiBaah has said.

Trade between Ghana and Turkey has been on a consistent increase and this has followed a dynamic path, with Ghana becoming Turkey’s third largest trade partner in Sub-Saharan Africa, after the Republic of South Africa and Nigeria.

“Our bilateral trade volumes amounted to USS$175 million in 2009, reached US$290 million in 2010 and now recent statistics has revealed that trade volumes have hit US$500 million. This is expected to hit a whooping US$1billion by 2015.

He made this known on the sidelines of a visit by a delegation from the Izmir Chamber of Commerce, Turkey to explore trade opportunities in the country and seek strategic partnerships to foster economic growth between the two countries.

The Turkish delegation was led by its President, Mr Ekrem Demirtas who met with members of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and other business communities at a forum in Accra.

The investors included business magnates from Turkey in the area of agriculture, construction, textiles, automobile and other economic sectors that can help grow the economies of both countries.
