Ghana Supply Company tasked to return to glory days
A Deputy Minister of Finance, Mrs Abena Osei-Asare, has urged the Ghana Supply Company Limited to use innovative and modern strategies to turnaround the fortunes of the company.
Addressing the newly inaugurated Board of Directors of the company, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Atiwa East said the new board must aim to return the Ghana Supply Company to its glorious past when it was self-sustaining, profitable and a regular payer of dividend to the government.

She said the eight-member board could achieve that by pooling their individual expertise, skills and competences for the benefit of the company.
“Your appointment is based on your individual relevant experiences, knowledge, skills and competencies. The ministry expects these combined qualities to inure to the benefit of Ghana Supply Company Limited. The confidence reposed in you is expected to reflect in your delivery in making the Ghana Supply Company a profitable and self-sustaining state-owned enterprise (SOE),” Mrs Osei-Asare said at the inauguration on Tuesday.
Members
The new board is chaired by Major (retd) Daniel Sowa Ablorh-Quarco, with Mr Abraham Binapadam Jawol, Mr Dennis Frimpong Agyebeng and Madam Maria Aba Lovelace-Johnson as members.
The rest are Mr John Mantey, Mr Robert A Baidoo Jr, Mr Ouborr Kutando and Mrs Juliana Addo-Yobo.
Major (retd) Ablorh-Auarco was retained as chairman.
Strides
The Deputy Minister noted that the ministry recognised the significant strides chalked up in the last five years by the company, especially in the areas of corporate governance, and was confident that the board would build upon them.
“The company was also indebted to several individuals and organisations in the past. Today, the narrative has changed and the company can look forward to a brighter and fulfilling role. The last board took up the challenge and helped revive the fortunes of the company. There is still a lot of work ahead that needs to be done,” she said.
Mrs Osei-Asare commended the previous board for laying the right foundation stone to bring the Ghana Supply Company Limited back on its feet.
She said the previous board’s vision of achieving efficiency and productivity also led to the company thriving for very high corporate governance standards.
Obey rules
The Deputy Minister in charge of Revenue also challenged the board to ensure that they complied with existing laws in the discharge of their duties.
“The government believes that this new board has the capacity to help steer the affairs of the company by building on the foundations laid over the past few years to turn things further around. In all these efforts, the board should appreciate the existence of the Public Procurement Act of 2003 (Act 663) and the Amendment Act (Act 914).”
“Accountability in all the supply activities of the company must follow the acts to ensure transparency, fairness, competition and value for money, among others,” she said.

She pledged the ministry’s support for the company, stating that her outfit was currently working with the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) to give Ghana Supply the necessary support to succeed as it had done in the past.
“I, therefore, charge you to put your competencies individually and collectively to work as a team to transform the Ghana Supply Company Limited. I have no doubt in your abilities. I believe you are up to the task to help in the rebuilding of the company to realise its fullest potential,” she said.
On behalf of the new members, the Board Chairman commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the faith reposed in them and pledged to strengthen the company to contribute meaningfully to national development.
