Ecobank Ghana launches mobile banking app

Ecobank Ghana has introduced a new mobile banking application to help customers across the country transact business with the bank with ease.

Dubbed Ecobank Mobile App, it is expected to allow customers to have a quick and easy access to their accounts, across 32 other African countries.

The mobile app is also projected to boost the spread of Ecobank digital products, which includes Ecobank Xpress Account, internet banking, Pan African Card, Automated Teller Machines and points of sale terminals to enable customers to send and receive money instantly.

Launching the mobile application at a ceremony in Accra, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Ecobank, Mr Ade Ayeyemi, said the bank’s digital platforms offerred an opportunity to develop new, previously unimagined services to its customers in order to help use money efficiently.

“Ecobank Mobile App, Ecobank Xpress Account, internet banking, Pan African Card, Automated Teller Machines, Points of Sale terminals, showcased the bank’s products and services across its unparalleled Pan-African network,” he said.

“The power of digital banking has the potential to unlock enormous lifestyle, business and other financial opportunities across Africa. Ecobank's digital offerings are opening up financial services to the unbanked, while serving existing customers at a whole new level and this will also help transform our continent and leapfrog economic development,” he added.

Power of digital

The Managing Director of Ecobank Ghana, Mr Dan Sackey, said “Ecobank's flagship Ecobank Mobile App was first launched in Lagos, Nigeria, this year and is expected to boost the spread of Ecobank Digital products, allowing wherever, whenever banking, bill payments and receipts, all online,” he said.

The Finance Minister, Mr Seth Terkper, indicated that it was important for the African continent to move away from trading with physical cash to digital transactions which was more efficient in the present era.

He explained that the government had adopted the use of electronic platforms for its operations and, therefore, the introduction of the Ecobank digital platform was timely.
