Diamond Jubilee Business Leaders Excellence Awards

The Diamond Jubliee Business Leaders Exellence awards has been held in Accra to honour captains of industry. It was organised as part of activities marking Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary celebration.

Private sector develppment

The Minister  of Trade and Industry, Mr Alan Kyeremanten was the guest of honour together with the President of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Nana Dr Appiagyei Dankawoso I as the Chairman.

Nii Kpobi Tettey-Tsuru III, the La Mantse, added a royal touch to the proceedings.

In his keynote address read on his behalf by Mr Dawarnoba Baeka, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr Kyeremanten said the government would continue to collaborate with industry to enable the private sector contribute its quota to national economic development.

He said the government would also open its doors to the private sector to deliberate on issues that could affect the development of the sector.

Mr Kyerematen said public-private partnership was the crust of the government’s industrial transformational agenda hence the need for continuous dialogue.

In view of that, he indicated that the ministry would institutionalise Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) to discuss important national issues, particularly, those affecting the private sector for the growth of the country.

Rationale for awards

The Director of Top Brass Ghana, organisers of the awards project, Mr Isaac Dakwa, explained the rationale for the Diamond Jubilee Business Leaders Excellence Awards Scheme saying it was to extend due recognition to captains of business, industry and finance who had invested their own resources and endeavours to establish enterprises and, through their business acumen, astuteness and leadership, have nurtured those enterprises to attain the commanding heights of the Ghanaian economy in the 60 years of Ghana’s Independence.

Twenty-seven distinguished personalities from the various sectors of the economy, including agriculture, banking, building and construction, commerce; energy, health, ICT, insurance, manufacturing, tourism and transportation were honoured.
