The staff members were awarded at the hotel's annual awards and dinner dance night instituted by Dr and Mrs Nduom, owners of the Coconut Grove Hotels, of which Coconut Grove Regency is a member.

A grills man at the hotel's kitchen, Mr Sani Mohammed, emerged as the best worker of the year. Mr Mohammed has worked with the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel for 14 years and was voted by his colleagues as the most outstanding member of staff in the year.

The event was graced by Dr and Mrs Nduom and other management members of the hotels.

The Coconut Grove Hotels comprise the Coconut Grove Beach Resort in Elmina, Coconut Grove Village in Elmina, Coconut Grove Bridge House in Elmina and the Coconut Grove Miner’s Lodge in Obuasi.

The umbrella body of the hotels is a member of the Groupe Nduom, the holding company of Dr Nduom's businesses, which has interests in finance, insurance, sports, entertainment, media, power, education and real estate, among others.

The winner of the best worker award thanked management for the honour done him and pledged to let it spur him to work harder in the coming days.

The General Manager of Coconut Grove Regency Hotel, Accra, Mr Ralph Ayitey, said management and staff of the hotel were appreciative of efforts of the board chairperson, Mrs Nduom, and her husband for their visionary leadership over the years.

He said while other facilities were laying off their staff as a result of the economic challenges in 2014, Dr and Mrs Nduom increased salaries of staff by up to 55 per cent within the year.

That gesture, he said, motivated the staff to offer guests excellent services, resulting in them cultivating memories worth repeating.

A Vice-President of Groupe Nduom (Legal), Mr Chiefy Nduom, congratulated the workers of the hotel for their commitment to work and excellent service to clients despite the challenges of last year.

Mr Nduom reiterated the commitment of the Board of Groupe Nduom to ensuring the hotels’ success irrespective of the economic challenges.

He appealed to governments to offer subsidies to industries as a form of motivation for private individuals to create more jobs. That, he said, would help reduce the current reliance on government for job creation while freeing resources into the provision of infrastructure.

He added that the government needed to increase investments in the provision of new infrastructure to make it easier for the establishement of companies.

He said he was hopeful that Groupe Nduom would continue to offer Ghana the very best in all the business areas that the conglomerate operates.
