Aflao Customs exceeds target — The first in 10 years
The Aflao Sector Command of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has exceeded its revenue target for last year by raking in GH¢107.38 million as against a GH¢99.50 million target.

The sector has, therefore, collected GH¢7.88 million in excess of its revenue target for 2015. The last time the sector exceeded its target was in 2006.
The Sector Commander, Mr Confidence David Nyadzi, announced this at a get-together at Aflao to review, take stock and award deserving staff of the Command.
Mr Nyadzi said informants were willing to trade information for money but that the processing and payments were unduly delayed, thereby making informant management very challenging.
Awards
Three officers from the Aflao sector received awards accompanied with citations and certificates. The awardees – the officers who intercepted a large cache of ammunitions at the Kpoglo Customs Barrier late last year – were presented with their awards on the International Customs Day.
Mr Nyadzi said the sector was prepared to step up its game to enable it to break its own record and ,therefore, called for intensified public education and collaboration with stakeholders to enable the sector to achieve a similar feat.
Commendations
Mr Nyadzi, therefore, commended the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) and other national security agencies for their significant roles towards the success of the sector.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South and Minister of Transport, Mr Fifi Kwetey, commended the sector and urged them to work harder to generate more revenue.He assured them of the government’s preparation to support them for higher achievements.
In an address read on his behalf, the Commissioner-General of the GRA, Mr George Blankson, said the revenue target for 2016 was GH¢10.16 billion, with the Aflao sector expected to contribute GH¢193.29 million.
He reminded them that security was paramount in the performance of their duties and they should, therefore, be on the alert, especially during the election year and check the rise in the incidence of smuggling of ammunition into the country.
