Accra Brewery staff urged to be ambassadors of smart drinking in Ghana

The Managing Director of Accra Brewery PLC, Mr Galo Rivera has charged staff of the company to become ambassadors of alcohol health literacy as part of a campaign to promote smart drinking in the country.

At a ceremony to launch the Global Smart Drinking Week on Monday in Accra, Mr Rivera said it was the personal responsibility of all staff of the company to lead by example with regards to reducing the harmful use of alcohol globally.

"We want all staff to lead by example, not just internally in our brewery but outside as well," Mr Rivera said.

"We want all employees to create awareness of smart drinking in our social and family circles all around us".

Global Smart Drinking Week

The brainchild of parent company ABInBev, the campaign comprises a set of programs and initiatives focused on shifting social norms, consumer behaviours, and business practices in order to make a tangible contribution to the reduction of harmful use of alcohol.

In Ghana, the week-long celebration which is focused on the safe consumption of beer is themed: "Cheers to Positive Beer Experiences".

The Legal and Corporate Affairs Lead of AB PLC, Mr Solomon Ayiah in an interview said a series of events including roadshows and staff education campaigns had been lined-up to promote responsible drinking ad reducing the harmful effects of alcohol.

Mr Ayiah stated that as a result of the company's business it has a responsibilty to ensure that everyone has a positive experience when consuming beer.

He said during of the week-long event, ABL PLC would embark on social marketing campaigns to emphasise the importance of zero alcohol consumption by persons aged under 18 years and pregnant women.
