Take five! Princesses dump Kenya

The Black Princesses yesterday made mincemeat of their Kenyan U-20 opponents with an emphatic 5-0 in the first leg of the second round of the 2018 Under-20 Women’s World Cup (WWC) qualifier played at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Four goals from Princesses’ striker, Princella Adubea, and another from Helena Obeng sealed the doom of the visitors who obviously had come to frustrate the Ghanaians.

Playing with a well taught out defensive plan, the Kenyans matched the Princesses in midfield at the early stages of the game and almost seem to have had their game plan of holding off the strong attack of the Ghanaians working.

While the Kenyans tried to hold off, the Princesses almost took them by surprise with Adubea’s sixth minute goal which was ruled offside.

That should have served as the warning for the Kenyans, but they rather daringly attacked the Princesses, and once the Ghanaians took charge, the Kenyans paid dearly for their stubbornness — conceding on the 27th minute when Obeng connected from a rebound, as well as Adubea’s goals on the 32nd, 42nd, 50th and 69th minutes.

Coach Yusif Basigi, who stood on his feet throughout the 90 minutes, provided the motivation for his ladies with Obeng scoring from a rebound on the 27th minute.

The Princesses reigned superior and took the game to the Kenyans and attacked in droves. Their efforts paid off on the 32nd minute when Adubea received a pass from Sandra Owusu Ansah to score Ghana's second goal.

From then on, the Princesses dictated the pace with midefielder Grace Asantewaa playing some delightful football. The result was another goal on the 42nd minute, when Adubea again scored Ghana’s third goal through a solo effort.

The Princesses continued with the onslaught with Adubea and Owusu-Ansah causing a lot of troubles for the Kenyan defence.

Like on many occasions, the visitors’ defence were again caught flat footed when the two attackers played a wall pass for Adubea to score the fourth goal for Ghana and a personal hat trick.

The lethal attacker later topped it up in the 69th minutes to make it five for Ghana, and leaving no chance for Kenya to recover or even have a glimpse of hope into the second leg in Nairobi in two weeks.
