Nana Fitz tasks GOC to organise polls

Ex-football administrator, Nana Fitz, has challenged the leadership of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) to urgently release a time-table to clearly map out strategies to hold fresh elections.

He said a time-table was the only thing that would calm the agitation within the GOC, and, therefore, demanded an immediate elections following Ghana’s disastrous campaign at the Olympic Games in Brazil.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports on the heels of a press conference by the GOC president, Prof Francis Dodoo, Nana Fitz, was uncomfortable with the vague promise made by the current president which, he said, had further left the agitators in a quagmire over the exact date of the elections.

The GOC president has come under intense pressure from some of the bodies constituting the Committee to hold elections immediately. In his response, however, Prof Dodoo said he was mandated by the constitution to organise elections between now and next April.

But Nana Fitz, who helped broker peace during an impasse between the then B.T. Baba-led GOC and Prof Dodoo four years ago, reminded Prof Dodoo to be guided by the past experience and not allow the recurrence of what happened in the past.

“The best way to deal with the matter is to come out with a time-table for everyone to be clear on when the election would be held to avoid any further confusion,” the experienced administrator said.

The former Kumasi Cornerstone chairman said his reason for intervening in the impasse four years ago was to ensure sanity in the sporting terrain and would not want to see such a situation recurring.

“If Professor Dodoo does not want to see the confusion reccur again, then he should immediately come out with plans for the elections to avoid any more confusion within the GOC again”, Nana Fitz asserted.
