MTN FA Cup: Ashgold keen to keep Jets grounded

Twelve teams from the first and second tiers of Ghana football will this weekend do battle to decide six quarter-final spots in the ongoing MTN FA Cup, with Tudu Mighty Jets, fresh off surviving relegation in Zone 3B of the Division One League (DOL), playing as guests of AshantiGold at the Len Clay Stadium, in the topmost fixture of three games this afternoon.

The Jets attack would be led by in-form Black Satellites striker Benjamin Tetteh, who scored a crucial goal against Zaytuna FC in a 3-1 victory in the DOL.

For Ashgold, the FA Cup remains the last chance for a trophy this season after they began the second round of the First Capital Plus Premier League in disastrous fashion with just one win out of five games and falling from second place to fifth.

Ashgold trainer, Bashiru Hayford, would also be keen to silence his critics and in the process save his job with a crucial win on home soil.

Elsewhere today, King Faisal take on Metro Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, while Sekondi Hasaacas host Gold Stars at the Gyandu Park in Sekondi.

Tomorrow, last year’s losing finalists and runaway league leaders, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, continue their chase for a domestic double with a home game against minnows Istanbul FC at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Kotoko coach, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, is likely to hand his fringe squad players roles in the tie, meaning Istanbul who have qualified for the play-offs might have a chance to upset the Oseikrom lads.

Berekum Chelsea also face-off with resurgent Inter Allies at the Golden City Park in the only all-premiership tie of the round. Both sides were firmly rooted at the bottom of the table at the end of the first round but have since improved in varying degrees, with Chelsea now placed eight and Allies in 14th position.

At the Gomoa Fetteh Park, sensational Fetteh Feyenoord Academy, who lost just a single game in the just-ended Division One League, face-off with New Edubiase United who will be led by the talented midfielder, Asiedu Attobrah.
