The duo again thrashed their counterparts from Trinidad and Tobago by two straight sets in their second preliminary game to give Ghana a comfortable lead.

In tennis, Ghana’s female player, Ibrahim Mariam, got a walkover and would face Nigeria’s Adetunji Adetayo today but Emmanuel Plange lost to his Rwandan opponent, Habiyambere Ernest, 6-7, 4-6.

The national beach volleyball team also put up an impressive performance to triumph 2-0 over New Guinea and 2-0 against Trinidad and Tobago to progress to the semi-final stage.

The team, which had earlier defeated Saint Lucia 2-0 in the quarter-final, is currently on the summit of their group table.

Swimming and boxing were yet to take their turn at the Games at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the Chef de Mission for Ghana’s contingent, Mr Mawuko Afadzinu, said Team Ghana is on course to make an impact on the Games.

He noted that all athletes and officials expected to represent Ghana at the games had safely arrived.

He was hopeful that the Black Bombers team, made up of Alfred Kotey and Philip Quartey, would also excel.
