Diwali Cricket thrills

Four matches were played in the second week of the ongoing Waatco (Balaji Group of Companies) Diwali Cup T20 Cricket tournament, organised by The Indian Association of Ghana and the Ghana Cricket Association last Sunday at the Achimota Cricket Oval in Accra.

The first game of Pool B saw last year’s champions BGC continue their good form and become the first team to qualify for the semis after they defeated GTA by 8 wickets. 

The Ghana Tamil Association (GTA) batted first and could only manage 99 runs in 18.2 overs with Vinod of BGC taking a hat-trick and finishing with 4 wickets in 4 overs.

BGC then easily reached the target of 99 in 15 overs to record their second straight win and qualify for the semi finals. Vinod was adjudged the man of the match for his bowling performance

In the second game of the day,  Everest Cricket Club also had an easy win over Oasis Cricket Club. 

Everest scored a mammoth 173 for 5 wickets in their 20 overs and then bowled out Oasis for 73 runs thereby giving Everest a big win by 100 runs and taking them to the semi finals. Bahrani, who took 2 wickets for 9 runs in 3 overs was declared the man of the Match.

The  third game witnessed Dilmah Cricket Club clash with Midcomm. 

Batting first Dilmah scored 137 for 5 in their 20 overs. Mukesh Mohan scored with 44 runs. 

He also had a good outing with the ball . He took 3 wickets to help Dilmah restrict Oasis to 104 for 8 in their 20 overs, giving him the Man-of-the- match award. Dilamah won the game by 33 runs 

The final game, last years runners-up Knight Riders recorded aneasy win over Godrej Cricket Club. 

Bowling first, Knight Riders, backed by a great bowling performance from Bhupinder Brar, a former national coach, bowled out Godrej for only 43 runs. 

Bhupinder took 5 wickets, which also included the second hat-trick of the day. The Kinght Rider batsmen then easily chased down the 43 runs in 5.3 overs, losing only 2 wickets.

The tournament will continue next Sunday with 4 exciting matches scheduled to be held.
