Mahama concedes defeat; calls Akufo-Addo to congratulate him

President John Dramani Mahama has conceded defeat in the presidential elections. He has consequently called the main opposition leader, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to congratulate him as winner of the 2016 presidential race.

Mr Eugene Arhin, Press Secretary to Nana Addo who confirmed this to media men in Nana Addo's residence said the two men had fruitful discussions on the telephone for about five minutes.

President Mahama was said to have pledged to support the New Patriotic Party government.

Nana Addo on his part was said to be beaming with smiles during the conversation.

Nana Addo is expected to speak to supporters who have gathered in his house.

The chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei is also expected to declare the results and Graphic Online understands that the declaration is due at 10pm.
