In all 703 pints of blood were donated by members of the church and others who responded to support a worthy cause.

This year’s occasion which is fourth in the series of the yearly donations by the church, was to mark the Senior Pastor, Rev Ransford Obeng’s 60 birthday anniversary.

Speaking after he had donated a pint of blood at the church’s premises at Ayigya in Kumasi, elated Pastor Obeng said “I realise that I have never needed blood donation but if God has been good to me to reach 60 years, why don’t I encourage people to donate blood so that we can save lives and let more people reach my age and beyond”.

The occasion as usual was coordinated by the medical team from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Blood Bank.

The Pastor explained that God in his infinite wisdom had made life such that those who have enough of blood could donate to support those in critical conditions with a little of what they have and without any problem.

He expressed worry that mankind, especially Ghanaians found themselves in need, because God created  the world and stocked it with abundance of resources and enough of everything for the increasing populations.

He added that the world and the country was experiencing great need due to the selfishness, greed, and corrupt leaders who have created artificial shortages and urged people to refrain from such acts, which he said were not acceptable to God.

Influence

Touching on how leaders must use the influence they have on their following, Pastor Obeng said leaders must channel such influence to better the lives of others and help those who do not have to also experience good quality life and receive the redemption of God.

“I realised that if God has given me such influence, I must sacrifice and help others to live and realise their God-given potential and receive Christ as their personal saviour “, he added.

He stated that he was overwhelmed by the increasing number of people from all ages who paid heed to his clarion call and have donated blood throughout the country to save lives and support the sick to have good health.

He said Ghanaians by their nature were generous and compassionate and had exhibited that through their numbers in donating the blood as a sign of their readiness to support a worthy cause.

Blood Unit

The Head of Blood Recruitment Unit of the blood bank, Mr Kwame Asenso, lauded the yearly efforts of the church, especially the decision by the church to extend it to a nationwide programme this year.

He explained that KATH Blood Bank unit uses over 60 pints of blood a day and assist other hospitals in the region with about 30, making it 90 pints of blood daily, a situation which required that more people donate from time to time so there is enough to save lives.
