The project is estimated at GH¢3 million and is expected to be completed in 12 months.

When completed, the building will house a District, Circuit and High courts, offices for both administrative staff, among other facilities.

It is to be sited at Frafraha, a suburb in the municipality.

The sodcutting ceremony last Wednesday attracted traditional leaders, heads of security agencies, officials of the Judicial Service and other opinion leaders in the municipality.

Benefits

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Adentan, Mr Benjamin Angenu, said the project, when completed, would bring justice delivery to the doorstep of people in the area.

He explained that the assembly decided to put up the structure owing to the overwhelming patronage of the District Court, which premises the assembly was currently renting.

“It is time to consolidate the gains we have made since the District Court commenced sitting over a year ago.

“The benefit of this court building will be enormous. Among other things, it will lead to a reduction in travelling time, proximity to a centre of justice and the improvement in the timely prosecution of suspects and the dispensation of civil cases,’’ he indicated.

According to Mr Angenu, the assembly had put in efforts to ensure that projects that would improve the socio-economic development of the people in the municipality were completed on time.

A Court of Appeals Judge, Mr Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei, who represented the Chief Justice, urged people to have faith in the justice system in the country rather than resorting to “self-help’’.

He called on the people to desist from indulging in so called instant justice because it did not involve any form of justice.

“When a person is alleged to have committed an offence and you punish that person, it is not instant justice because the law stipulate that every accused person must be heard before being condemned. Even the Lord almighty, who created heaven and earth gave a hearing to Adam and Eve when they committed a sin,’’ the judge indicated.

He commended the assembly for embarking on such a laudable project.

“The Chief Justice and the Judicial Service are happy to hear that the assembly has promised to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe to improve justice delivery,’’ Mr Ajei stated.
