Unemployed man steals goats

A Winneba  Magistrate Court  has sentenced a 19-year-old unemployed man  to 12 months imprisonment for stealing two nanny goats and a mobile phone.

Kwanza Nyarko was charged on two counts of stealing two goats belonging to Aunty Aba and a mobile phone belonging to Georgina Quartey.

Nyarko  pleaded guilty on both counts when he appeared before the court, presided over by  Mr Isaac Oheneba Kuffuor.

He was subsequently sentenced to serve a 12-month jail term. 

The facts of the case as presented by  Inspector Peter Agbelie were that on October 7, 2016 at about 2:30 a.m., Samuel Larbi, the complainant in the case, was returning home after watching TV at a drinking spot in the area when he spotted  Nyarko coming out of  Aunty Aba’s  goat pen with a sack on his shoulder.

Inspector   Agbelie said  when Larbi confronted Nyarko, he  dropped the sack on the ground and  bolted.

The prosecutor said Larbi raised an alarm and Nyarko was chased and eventually arrested.

Upon inspecting the sacks, the  two dead  goats and the  mobile phone were found. 

Prosecutor Agbelie said Nyarko, who   admitted  to stealing the goats and the phone.
