Use media ministry to win souls

A Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Professor Victor Yankah, has urged the clergy to adopt what he described as “media ministry” as an effective means of reaching a larger audience with the word of God.

He said men of God must use mass media channels such as the Internet, radio, television and social media to preach the word of God.

“Technology has become a double edged sword and I know most Christians are becoming worried about this innovation, but I would rather you  take advantage of the benefits it presents to win more souls for God,” he pointed out.

Prof. Yankah, who is also the Head of Department  of Theatre and Film Studies at the UCC, made this observation at the first graduation ceremony of the Baptist International Theological Seminary in Accra.

Dr Ellen Oteng

The founder and President of the seminary, Dr Ellen Oteng, said she realised that the true gospel was being diluted and therefore, there was the need to train new minds to uphold the true gospel.

She said the seminary’s main focus included training men of God who could reach out to all manner of people with different dialects in Ghana.

In order to train top class scholars to man the christian ministry, Dr Oteng noted that the seminary made practical mission compulsory where each student was supposed to win at least 20 souls as part of their grading system.

Advice 

Dr Oteng urged the newly ordained pastors to let their character reflect the teaching of Christ in all their endeavours.

Quoting Psalm 1:2 that “But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night”, she advised them to live a life worthy of emulation since they were now role models to society.

Graduating class

In all, 10 students including two females graduated and were commissioned as pastors. 

Mr Francis Anaman was crowned  the Overall Best Student  and the Best Church Planter, while Dr Emmanuel Addo Yobo was also awarded the Best Academic Student.

Other award winners included Mr Francis Anaman who was crowned the Best Preacher, while the Best Practical Mission went to Ms Dora Otubea Adjei.

Established in 2010 with the vision of teaching to transform lives, the school offers certificate courses in counselling, Crisis Chaplaincy, Prison ministry, institutional Chaplaincy etc.
