He said that was a positive step to solve the current increasing unemployment rate in the country.

According to him, irrespective of the unemployment challenges confronting the country, there were still vast untapped opportunities available that many people can explore to contribute to national development.

Dr Agyekum Addo was speaking at the closing ceremony of a free entrepreneurship programme held in Accra to expose unemployed graduates to the opportunities available in the country.

The programme
The project, which is under the KAMA Education Project, was held on the  theme: “Identifying opportunities to create wealth.”

Participants were educated on how to use the five sensory organs, namely, the eye, ear, tongue, skin and nose, to identify opportunities within their various communities.

They were also educated on the various factors that could help them become successful entrepreneurs.

In all, more than 250 people benefited from the programme which was held on three Saturdays, and they were presented with certificates of participation.

Era of entrepreneurship
Dr Agyekum Addo said the world was now in the era of entrepreneurship and that he was committed to ensuring that Ghanaians understood the benefits associated with this era and embraced the numerous opportunities for development.

He urged participants to consider venturing into the textiles, agro processing, mining, plastic and water production, gold, oil, as well as the entertainment industries and called on the government to encourage the teaching of entrepreneurship in schools.

The acting Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Charles Aheto-Tsegah, who was present, said the GES was committed to ensuring that young people were encouraged to venture into entrepreneurship.

He advised beneficiaries of the programme to use the knowledge acquired to better themselves. “We will continue to encourage young people to cultivate entrepreneurship skills,” he said.
