The Valley View University (VVU) has held its 21st graduation with a call on graduands to hold in high esteem the Christian education they had acquired in the school.

A Deputy Minister of Education, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who made the call said discipline, morality and strong religious principles were all embedded in Christian education and education without those principles was meaningless.

Mr Ablakwa, who was the guest speaker, stated that those principles were not in the curriculum, however, they were valuable ingredients that would make them holistic graduates and useful to the state and humanity.

“Having a first-class degree without morals is meaningless.”

Graduation

A total of 1,312 candidates, consisting of students from both the Oyibi and Techiman campuses graduated.

Out of the graduands, 2,530 were awarded undergraduate degrees, while 170 were awarded postgraduate degrees.

Mr Ablakwa asked the graduands to be proud of the quality education they had received at the VVU, adding that although training at the VVU had been strict, it would go a long way to make them better individuals.

Public-private relationship

Mr Ablakwa announced that the government had intensified deliberations on how to strengthen partnership between the government and private universities, adding that private education was a significant factor recognised by the government as a positive step to providing high standards and quality education.

The Vice Chancellor of the Valley View University (VVU), Professor Dr Daniel Buor, advised the graduates to make a difference in the world by uplifting morality.

He said core values of the university such as integrity and excellence had been inculcated in the graduands in large measure, hence the need for them to contribute meaningfully to socio-economic development.

Professor Buor charged the graduands to make a difference in the world where corruption, premarital and strange sex such as homosexuality were becoming the norm.

Good character

In his address, the Principal Lecturer of Theology at the Newbold College, Professor Aulikki Nahkola, advised the graduands to be of good character, saying “Integrity is the emblem of good character.”

He advised them to desist from immoral activities and lead exemplary lives to demonstrate the values of integrity and excellence they acquired during their university education.
